Desde casi el nivel del mar, los montes de Sierra Morena se elevan hasta m\u00e1s de mil metros. En este trayecto encontramos la mejor y m\u00e1s completa representaci\u00f3n del bosque mediterr\u00e1neo: acebuchares, encinares, alcornocales, quejigares, hasta llegar a los robledales; sin olvidar las extensas alisedas y los bosques de ribera que orlan sus r\u00edos.<br \/>\nEste tapiz forestal alberga una rica biodiversidad. Es el \u00fanico lugar de la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica donde sobreviven todas las especies emblem\u00e1ticas del bosque mediterr\u00e1neo: el lince, el lobo, el \u00e1guila imperial, el buitre negro y la cig\u00fce\u00f1a negra.<br \/>\nPero Sierra Morena se encuentra amenazada. Las comunidades de vertebrados est\u00e1n cambiando y el bosque est\u00e1 gravemente enfermo. Se estima que en ciento cincuenta a\u00f1os podr\u00edan haber muerto casi todos los \u00e1rboles.
